  • Need help!!!! 1990 jetta running on 3 cyl oh now 2, ok now 4

    HEy guys

im hoping someone can help me or give me a direction to what is wrong with my MK2 jetta..

Car was running fine, out the the mountains, going to work all over the city for mobile calls.

But now it seams that once and a while its like it has a miss fire here and there...

I did not think to much of it at first since it was a rare thing that was happening. Few weeks later it was getting worse and it felt like i was loosing cylinders (only running on 3cyl for 2 or 3 min while driving) then back to normal..

It was getting to the point that i could not make it up hills, cause as soon as i would climb the car would die out and the RPM just drop from 3300ish to 2000 going from 100 to 70KM.

yesterday my good friend Compton came over to check it out, we change

ignition wires, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor.

Also changed the coolant temp gauge ( little blue thing that goes into the coolant hose)

    The CAR is still F'ED

    Same problems

    What can it be?????

If anyone can help please let me know what your thinking

    PS

it seams to be affected mostly when im going up hills.
it also seams to correct itself when i let off the gas, and floor it again.. This only lasts for a few MIN then back to the same old BS.

Change fuel filter! Then run some fuel line additive cleaner stuff for a tank. Clean throttle body. Check catalytic converter if possible. Clean out airbox or replace air filter.

Checked all these things yet? Could be fuel pump as well.

In the old days one would start with cylinder compression test.
Have you done exhaust gases analysis?

For fuel purge I suggest LM Jectron+ ventil sauber the concentration is - one bottle each in gallon of gas.
Ventil sauber works efficiently if introduced directly into the intake - choke the engine-soak for 2 h - start.
Plenty of white smoke confirms the efficiency of the process.
An oil change is recommendable after serious purge...

Requires equipment :( Other things can be done by anyone.
