  • Anyone got a spare MkIV drivers seat?

    Hey,

Im gonna take out my drivers seat to repair the heater and was wondering if anyone had a MkIV drivers side seat that is lying around unused that i can pop in while mine is out. Car is my daily driver so cant do without it and may have to wait until dealer orders new element if thats the problem.

    Let me know

    Cheers

You can have the heater out of my spare seat for a cheap price, or take what you need from it.

How much for the element? Or if you have the entire seat, how much do you want for it? Is it the sport cloth drivers side?

They are Velour and the drivers side has a blown airbag :( If Kordain doesn't buy the element though you are next in line then

2000 is a tricky year some are wired parallel and some series.

Re: Anyone got a spare MkIV drivers seat?

yup your right, started to take the seat apart today ( thanks Jester for loaning me a spare seat ) the whole thing is a bit different than i expected

It is not a single heater pad it is three in parallel, two on the side bolsters and the seat cushion heater is actually in a pouch between the leather and a foam cover, unfortunately the leather seat cover, heater element and pouch bottom are all sewn together into the seams across the leather so cant be pulled out by the looks of it.

Also the leather seat is secured to the seat base a lot stronger than the fabric seats. Theres these two copper rings mid way down the seat that loop through the rails under the leather seat cover and im gonna have to unloop them to get them off which doesnt look like an easy task as there a complete beatch to get at. Also the leather is pulled right under the seat and doest look like it can be removed so ill never be able to lift the leather up and out of the way unless i cut them and i dont fancy that, anyone know how to pull em out?

I dont see anywhere where i can cut back the material around the element/wiring connection to see if it can be repaired easily yet so im considering if this would take a normal heater element from a non leather seat and just lay it under the cover and pouch and pull out the old bolster heaters and lay the new one in as a one peice leaving the existing seat heater in the pouch as its well and truly sewn in there. At first i thought there was no element in at all confused me for a minute.

On a side note, anyone know what pins on the green plug to test across to see if im getting power to the heater before i start pulling it apart? well, more so at least...

                          Hmmmmm no element

                          Ah there it is !

In an impossible to remove little baggy

Where the wires come through for the seat cushion heater

The leather is secured down the side of the seat and i cant see how to release it

                          Seat Hooks

                          Copper ring still holding seat

Close up of hard to get at to remove copper ring
