Re: Mobil 1 - where to buy?

All Mobil Diesel oils are API certifies (for gasoline)

    Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck
    5W-40

    and

    Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40

    are not the same:

    Pour Point, ºC, ASTM D 97 -45
    Flash Point, ºC, ASTM D 92 226
    vs
    Pour Point, ºC, ASTM D 97 -48
    Flash Point, ºC, ASTM D 92 249

    Only few to name...

They look as exceptional oils for Calgary climate.

Re: Mobil 1 - where to buy?

The ESP is the newer version to meet CJ-4, which is a requirement for vehicles with particulate filters. The TDT is the CI-4 Plus version of Delvac 1. In the USA, they have updated TDT to CJ-4 and they are now the same oil, but this has not made it to Canada yet.

As far as comparing specs, it is a bit confusing. The TDT specs are from older testing. ASTM D 97 did not used to allow reporting below -45 C, so respectable manufacturers would just report that number. The newer version (2008) allows measurement to lower values, so you see the difference. As far as cold weather cranking performance, you should always look at the cold weather viscosity. A 0WXX must be better than a 5WXX as that is the definition of the oil viscosity rating system. Each range gives 5 C change in cranking temperature. 5WXX is -30C, 0WXX is -35 C.

Anyway, engine testing is showing both oils to be performing around the same and better than most others on VW diesel engines.

However, the additive package on regular Mobil 1 is better suited for a gasoline engine and will provide better protection for those engines.

Shouldn't the additive packages on API SM rated oils be the same?
And the diesel oil to provide additional additives to suit the diesel process (on top of the gas process)?
And the diesel oil specifics to handle well the demands on a gas turbo engine (deposits, cooking, sludge)?

No, it just means they both meet the API tests, which are not that tough to meet. Pretty much any oil meets the SM category.

The additive packages are different for the different requirements of the engines. Mobil is arguably the leader in oil design and testing and has made the oils as good as possible for the specific engines.

Attempted to contact Miller Ag Supply=> neither email provided on their site works, nor they are answering the phones.

            Are they functional?
