  • How long for parts?

    Opinions wanted:

    You go in to the dealer for warranty work. There is a part that needs to be replaced. A simple or basic part - let's say a glove box door, a speaker, a trim piece or a hose - nothing big or complicated. Also not a part that would be a safety or driveability concern. You pick up your car and the service advisor says they will call you when the part comes in and to book an appointment to complete the job.

    What is your expectation level for that part to come in? Overnight? 2 days? 5 days? Two weeks? What would be way too long?

      On stock order parts, usually takes a week to come in.
      On emergency order parts, same day if available in local warehouse, next business day if within Country, next business day/at most 2 days if in US.

      That's what the parts manager at dealership I visit told me. :thumbsup:

        I say 1 week for uncommon parts. I'd still be a satisfied customer at 2 weeks. 3 weeks - unsatisfied, but not make a big fuss. 1 month is too long.

          all depends on where the part is, and if anyone else locally has it in stock. for a little items, i wouldnt assume more than a few days at most.

            VW got two big warehouses located somewhere near by Vancouver and the other one is near by Toronto.

            The situation in SFC is that if the warehouse stocks the parts. Usually if they can confirm the parts is in. Parts can be arrived to the dept by noon on the next day. Then now is depending on the people who work at the department when will they pick out the order to call you.

              ...but what is YOUR EXPECTATION as a customer?

              My previous two cars I owned were both Nissans - and Altima and a Pathfinder. I NEVER had to wait more than 3 days for anything. So I expect to be serviced in a quick turn around. Now with VW I am having to wait 2 - 3 weeks for basic parts...

              This might be another subject, but as consumers are we partly responsible for the poor service many VW dealers provide by accepting the fact that it takes weeks for parts? I can get parts for my washing machine faster...

                You posted as I was typing... that's good info and that would meet with my expectations.

                  I think you are comparing the culture with a different car company. I admit that the Japanese brand including Nissan(what you had before) and the Toyota are too efficient. The delay you experiencing happens on AUDI, MB, BMW and Porsche as well. If you love the car then is better to suck up what is the common problems. For example, that a 1.8T owner need to face that the coil packs will blown occasionally. Some people can take it but on me, I can’t. I would rather get a more reliable VW family engine instead.

                    Pete, I had my turbo replaced in two days and the part was ordered from Germany. Some other parts I ordered came in one week which weren't that of importance. Guess it depends on how important they are, but as a customer more than a week is ridiculous.
