  • Random e-brake warnings

    Hey guys,

I'm experiencing random e-brake on warnings on occasion when just driving along. It's happened a few times for no apparent reason and it flashes and beeps for about 10-15 seconds and then goes away. I pull on the ebrake a bit and push it down hard and it still has the warning on.

    2004 Jetta 1.8T 5 speed.

    Any ideas??

isn't flashing light a low brake fluid warning?

but if you drive with your e-brake on, is it a solid light with beeping or a flashing light with beeping? I though it was soild, and flashing was not an e-brake thing, but could be wrong. I'd go test it out, but my e-brake cables are seized at the moment, and I need a hammer to release the brakes...

**found this, it's a little random - so i'm not sure about the accuracy:

"This could be one of two problems. The brake light flashing and beeping alone would indicate low brake fluid level. Just open the hood and look on the driver's side way in the back. The owner manual will show you where. You will see a a fluid level on the outside with min/max lines. The fluid is hard to see, but if it is down to min then the light will blink and the warning beep will sound. I hope that is your problem.

The second option would be a faulty ABS module and if that is the case it would need to be replace or rebuilt. "

Flashing could mean a fault in the ABS sensor.

Thanks guys. I'll take a look at the brake fluid. If it's not that I'll have a visit to the dealership.

agree with above, vws seem to be exceptionally picky when it comes to the brake fluid level, my friend had it happen on his mark 3, the reservoir didn't even really look like it was down, he just had to top it up and the warning went away

Again, fluid level. Just be sure to get the right fluid. I believe you should be looking for DOT 4. Should be on the cap of the reservoir.
