    Re: TDI rough idle

whats visible on the EGR looks ok. It was clogged when I got it, and it doesnt look like that at least. No power loss that's noticeable. No bubbles.
I'll see what I can do to get these tested.

Any idea what these are like? Cheap for good reason?

Concept-1 and Calgary Auto Works sells them. I got my Kinetic nozzles from CAW and reused the stock injector assemblies. I believe the nozzles are made by Piers Diesel Research for Kinetic. I could have spent the extra money at Kerma but you guys probably already know that story. Just search around TDIclub.

Unplug your MAF and see if that helps? I know its a long shot but it only takes 30 seconds to try. See this thread for more info:

Benjamin and I did some injector juggling. Definitely was injectors. Good news is, the car runs much better now, bad news is, its running on Benjamin's injectors, not mine... We swapped my nozzles with new ones, and the car ran like the crap. I will bring in my injectors to get tested next week.
Thx Benjamin for help. Car still has good power with the stock injectors, but sure notice the decrease in bottom end tourque.

              Re: TDI rough idle

We switched the old nozzles with new PP520's, taking time to make sure everything stayed clean. New washers, blew compressed air to get out the dirt of the head. And when the engine started up the engine bucked like mad. Never seen an engine move so bad, but I had a backup play.
Some OEM 350k km stock 5 speed injectors that were pulled but no nozzles removed. Dropped those in, engine ran awesome, nothing more then a standard vibration.
We didn't even adjust the IQ before he took off, but yeah he needs the PP520's balanced and car should be good with more power again.

X2......I have cleaned countless TDI intake mani's due to them building up with a crap load of carbon. Same with the egr cooler tubes. Maybe remove the throttle body and take a peek down the intake to see if theres a lot of build-up.

pretty sure the intake is not the issue. car is running pretty good right now.

will have the new injectors tested/calibrated tomorrow.

i'm pretty sure with my fueling issue, I would have been close competition, although wouldn't have had the extra power to go with it

My car just has a rough idle while starting, after a dozen seconds it settles right out. I must still have an injector leak or something.

                              Re: TDI rough idle

Sent the injectors to GCL Fuelsystems for sonic cleaning and calibration. 150$, and came back looking like new. They found that 2 of the injectors had "sticky needles".
Got them in, car ran well, but not perfect. IQ was below spec. Got it as high as I could with vagcom, which was 3.0.
Checked timing, and it was in spec, but retarded. I increased this (pain in butt). I am now advanced, but in spec. Quite close to the top end of 'In spec', so might bring it back, but its so fussy to adjust, so I'll leave it for now... getting dark.

IQ is now 3.3-3.4, and car seems pretty good (at least from a short drive. Will go get replacement bolts for fuel pump pully this weekend because I hear the originals were to be replaced with a different type of bolt. Original bolts were one time stretch bolts (maybe... but will replace anyway).

So with any luck, thats one problem down.

Thx Ben for your help and knowledge.
GCL also seems like a decent shop. They are authourized Bosch injector guys. I'd recommend them if you needed injectors balanced or cleaned.

Brent, I have extra injector washers if you need them.

I dunno about GCL, i've taken injectors there before, they wouldn't clean them for me, instead told me they can get new nozzles for them for $1100 ya no thanks. And their diagnostic outcome was "leaky tips", no pressures or anything like that.
