    IMO 3-3500 is a good shift point for daily driving, any more and your really just wasting gas.

      3500 is ok, 5000 may be a little hi, depends on your goal. just dont lug it, and yes, VW's love their rpms, fact.

        i just took the valve cover off my gf's mk3 cabrio to change the gasket, i found the same sludge on top of the plastic cover.

          Its common especially when the car just drive short distances. I usually shift between 3000-4000 on my mk4. I find if i do shift low on the 2.slow it bogs quite nicely.
