Well for a TDI it is no problem but it is only 5 bolts to get the plate off.
Name: Brent
His: '04 TDI Golf Mods: None If it's smoken it ain't broken
Family: '15 Jetta Sportwagon
Fun car: '92 Blue Karmann Crabby Cabby Mods: Coils, front and rear swaybars, LED interior lights and some other old things.
They make ones now with filter access I think, and go see paul @ Burt n Jacks, he will probably put it on for you if you bring him a nice cup of Italian coffee, or wobly pop.
/\/\/\ do you mean that the "new ones" have a cut-out for the DRAIN-PLUG?.. /\/\/\
gas powered cars will have to remove the plate for oilchanges. the plate takes about 3 minutes to remove while laying on your back on your garage floor.
to me, it's 200% worth having one... just for piece of mind in winter-driving.
i don't feel like having to deal with the aftermath of an iceburg falling off of a truck on deerfoot and having nowhere to go (and running the damn thing over).
it's happend to me,... heard the thud, swore,.. kept on driving. way better than being sidelined in the cold with my 2 year old daughter in the car.
and honestly, if you can't install the evo skidplate yourself,.. you shouldn't perform any other work on your car.
anyone know the p/n and price for that other oilpan bart was talkin' 'bout?

"Everything I save by driving diesel I put back due to poor German engineering and crappy Mexican workmanship!"
just installed mine last week, it is well worth it, I no longer have to do 5km/hr down the icy streets and hope to hell i dont hit.
A thing to note is that you aren't just getting oil pan protection, it protects your tranny as well. Something you wouldn't get from going to a steel oil pan. Not to mention a lot less work . just my 2 cents
not having a skid plate gives you better oil cooling
It actually acts like a heatsink it will absorb the heat from the engine and displace it while driving.
if your stuck in traffic??Oh well it will heat a little more.
hmm never though about that, does it actually make that large a difference? I do have a VR so if thats the case I'd consider removing it for summer
sorry i missed the part that you have a VR.
those engines are brutally hot under the hood AND even the Battery need's protection so it does'nt boil,Hence the Kevlar Shield around it.
Do not cover the bottom of your engine!! you will cook it.
if you decide to buy the plate build some air scoops into it.
