  • More confusion- mk3 jetta doesnt move in gear

    98 Jetta 2.0
    -doesnt move when in gear
-manually select gear on transmission, b/c shift linkage not hooked up
-both wheels spin by hand when car is jacked up
-everything seems to be hooked up
-axles both connected to tranny flanges

I got the car to move about a foot in reverse, then drove it about a foot ahead. Then when i went to back up again it wouldnt move.

Is it possible the car has a wrong clutch disc?

are the finger on the friction plate sticking out, with the clutch assembly all bolted together, or are they kind of flush?
        put.......put.......

My car has OBD2 ABA with a 020 CHB Tranny, according to the code the tranny is out of a 1.8 ACC.
Possible that a random 020 was installed, with a different clutch that it needs on the motor?

The input shaft on the tranny is smaller then the spline inside the clutch disc, and the shaft looks like it already stripped some splines off from inside the clutch. Unless im completly wrong, this is my theory haha.

            So i took everything out.
            Heres some pictures i took,

Aren't these axles supposed to be the same size lol, like thickness wise?

dont have a book handy with codes but ya, things didnt line up and now your broke, pretty sure you have the wrong clutch kit, input shaft looks okay based on pics. Also not sure if the the right clutch kit for that tranny will werk with the aba eng and flywheel.
The right axle will be thicker cause it's longer. Ask tune dub

ya your clutch was the wrong one.
but i bet that tranny went in easy thou.
make sure whether you have a 1 pin or 2 pin flywheel.

you may have to update and buy a new flywheel as well.

i bought a clutch disc at concept 1 already.
still 210mm clutch, just with the smaller input shaft hub.

                        thanks for the input everyone.

apply some spline grease before installing, and change those seals and bushing for release rod.
