    Hey guys,

Well I'm looking at getting a 2.5" turboback exhaust this year for my GLI.
I want one that is not too loud. Something that is a noticeable difference, but not over doing it.

Right now I'm leaning towards an APR system.

Any opinions on APR or other brands?

        isnt 2.5 a little quieter?

are the gains with a 3 inch that much more? I have a stock turbo

I have a 2.5" DP from Street Toys, 2.5" test pipe and 2.5" Magnaflow catback system from Lawrence at Calgary Auto Works. Calgary Auto Works did all the work and a job well done. Looks and sounds great.

              Re: exhaust

I got a GHL 3" TB...not as loud as some ppl make it out to be plus its non-resonated!

2.5" is a good system especially if ur mods are to a minimum! with a 3" exhaust u lose alot of low end power but gain alot of power at the top and its quite the opposite for the 2.5" system!

42draft designs is nice and fits well...great sound id rate it somewhere around the same system as GHL

APR always made nice products but they are expensive! They do make a 3" exhaust and they def do sound great!

GHL id get it again in a heart beat! Just the first time starting it and driving next to a wall makes u want to wet your pants haha

Heard MaxPSI aint a bad company either!

There are a few options out there! If your ever in Calgary and want to hear the GHL let me know and we will work something out!

                      Re: exhaust

APR has 2 options I believe as far as how loud they are and level of so called performance. When exhaust is concerned, bigger isnt always better, sometimes you need a little back pressure, unless you are putting some massive garret on, dont go much bigger than stock, 2.5 is good.

                        Re: exhaust

Here is a link to a video of my APR 2.5 inch Turbo back on my GTI. Ignore the caption I was just being a goof.

The drone inside the car is sometimes louder then other times (going up a long steep slope), but with the music turned up you don't really notice anything. When I had George from Tunedub put it on he said something about magnaflow having a better fit, or something like that.

He had to grind out some of my rear frame because I was so low so there's something to think about. Concept-1 repeatedly urged me to go for the 2.5 inch exhaust, saying that its over kill on a stock turbo and that the gains are minimal plus it will have a better fit. Whether or not you have plans for a turbo upgrade I don't know. I have seen that APR is more costly than other name brands, but I like APR products and I have been extremely happy with the sound and quality. The exhaust sounds super awesome at low RPM's too. I have a chip and intake and forge 007 as far as mods under the hood. As far as how loud and the sound of the exhaust in person, I wouldn't go any louder than this, and I feel the sound is a nice clean and crisp grunt all the way up to 5th gear, and NOT the empty farty noise that you sometimes hear. I can't comment much on other exhausts because I am not too sure but I know there are many choices out there and I like you, have listened to hundreds of clips on youtube trying to decide what sounds best for my taste. Anyways enjoy!

Here is the video that sold me on APR exhaust by the way, sound in this one might be more of what it sounds like in person than mine (better camera video?)

                          Re: exhaust

My setup has a really low note at idle and all through acceleration. Much lower and deeper than the youtube videos above. Actually sounds even better running through the parkade in the mornings with the window down. I will see if I can record a run this weekend. Without the cat there is more soot being expelled and my nice Magnaflow tips are really hard to keep clean

                            Re: exhaust

I have the MaxPSI 3" turbo back with the high flow cat. You can definatly notice a loss in the lower end but the higher end gains are well worthin IMO. My car used to boost to 9psi and now it boosts to 13psi with nothing changed except for the exhaust. MaxPSI was good with shipment and they make kits specifically for the GLI. I had Bert and Jacks install it and they said it went on no prob.
