Rust on wheel bolts

I took my wheels off today to do some cleaning for the V8less show on Sunday. I noticed there's some rust on the threads of my bolts and around the hub where the wheel sits. I was going to shoot some WD40 on it, but that seemed like a bad idea. Does anybody else have this???

my old golf had this on all the bolts.. i tried to take the wheel off to clean and the bolt cracked (they were tuner lugs). ended up having to get the wheel saw'ed right off. :(

there is a product you should be using to apply a thin film on the threads of the lugs/blots. Its called Kopper Kote (somthing like that). I use this crap on just about every single nut/bolt application there is on my car. It simply prevents siezing and won't disipate even at the highest temps.

I don’t know if they are cheaply made or not. All VW bolts will rust eventually.

Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can pick this kopper stuff up at Can Tire. The last thing I need is to have wheel sawed off....Yikes:donking:

The lugs themselves are from C1, and I haven't been too impressed with them. They are plated or chrome or something, and the finish is peeling off. Now there's this rust thing too. For like 5 bucks a pop, thats not cool.

are they regular style lugs or are they tuner lugs?

what i mean is, are they the same style as stock, or are they an inverted style called tuner lugs (they have holes, and you stick the key in the hole)

mine were the tuner lugs, the chrome peeled off quickly and began to rust. and eventually the lug cracked.

No, they're not tuner lugs. They are the same spec as the stock bolts. One of the first things I did when I bought my wheels was ditch the tuner lugs so that I can use the stock VW wrench in the trunk and not worry about having the right attachments etc. if I had a flat.

Yeah I use copper sort of stuff on everything as well, no rust yet.
