  • My Wheels are Stuck on!?

So normally I take off my summer wheels in the fall, but this year I moved to Lethbridge so my car has just been garaged in Calgary with my wheels on until now.

This afternoon I attempted to take my wheels off, but they won't budge. No matter what I did I could only get one wheel off. It's like they become so cold and shrunk slightly and now they are stuck.

Can anyone recommend something I can do. For the record they are 18'' Brock B2's and my garage is heated. I tried some WD-40 but it was no help.

Any ideas? Unfortunately I don't own a heat gun or the like.
Honestly, I doubt there is anything you guys can tell me, I think this is more of just a rant as I'm pissed about this.

Any help would be great though.

Hit em from the back with a foot, or a 2x4 and a rubber mallet.

Make sure to rotate the wheel every couple hits.

what i did was heal kicked one side of the tire...
and had someone else turn the tire 1/4 of a turn every kick....
you could also spray some penitrating oil in the center of the wheel to help free it up...
other than that just man up and start kicking

I'll second that. Just make frickin' sure your jacked car is secure. Otherwise, it'll be man down after you man up.

A 2 or 3 foot pipe on the end of your wrench should be enough to do the job.

Sorry I should clarify, the nuts come out just fine; that's not the issue. The wheels are stuck on the hub/axle (sorry I don't know the term). I've tried kicking them with no avail. I'm going to heat the garage to about 8 degrees over night, and try again in the morning.

**edit**You posted the same time i did...but the weight of the car should help you out and break that grip your car has on the rims. make sence kinda? I think thats what he means anyways.

Leave the wheels loose and pop the clutch,or drive and then reverse..

you will most likely have to hammer the back by placing a 2x4 against the wheel and then smashing the 2x4 with a BFH!!! you could also try heat with a propane torch directly on the centre of the wheel (around the hub) warm it up and keep hitting it as you rotate it a quarter turn or so, but a really good tip is thread one of the lug bolt back in, not snug but at least a few threads so if it does pop off the hub it wont fall face down onto the concrete!!!

Same thing happened to me with alloys. Steel rims don't do it. As was said, it's due to corrosion set up by dissimilar metals in contact. When you get them off, you need to clean up the wheel seats, then coat them with something to prevent metal-to-metal contact next time. I've thought of using primer. An auto shop recommended anti-seize compound.
VW recognize the problem, and make a spray wax especially for this. In my experience, parts guys don't know about it. You have to ask for Part D 322 000 A2, and it's not stocked in Calgary, you have to order it (3 days). Yeah, I know, it costs between $26 and $34 depending on the dealer (shop around) but I would have paid that to have my wheels come off when I wanted them to, and it's a lifetime supply (big can). If you go this route, don't try to spray it on. You can't control the spray. Spray a small amount into a tin, then dab it on the cleaned-up wheel seats with a small artist's brush and allow it to dry. You're only supposed to coat the centre wheel seats, not the flat metal mating surface. The wheel seats were where my corrosion was.
