  • Smash Bang Drip Drip

So I smashed my Passat 1.8 tip pretty nicely, probably a write-off. It is running but just enough to get home. All the damage is to the front and it is dripping a slightly pinkish very slightly viscous fluid from near the very front (as near as I can tell as the skid plate is blocking the actual source). I am hoping it is coolant and not tranny. So the question is - is coolant slightly viscous? I will need to get this to a body shop and figure I could do it without much coolant.

    Merry Xmas...

One more question; so coolant is also antifreeze (I presume). If a lot leaks out tonight it should be OK short term, but if I run the car then park it again do I run the risk of having the engine freeze? I dont plan on running it many times but I may need to go a) to a reporting center and then b) body shop (that is if it starts in the am, it sounds pretty ridiculously bad)..

It could be coolant or trans fluid, tough to tell at these temperatures. Is it an auto trans? I'm not sure if there is a transmission cooler in the rad on those cars or not. Check the coolant level before you drive it if you can get the hood open. It's okay if the engine freezes, it's when there is water in the engine and having that freeze is when damage happens.

Why not just leave it parked....the insurance guy will come to you. If you need to have it repaired they can tow it.

Have it towed to your bodyshop, insurance covers it anyways.

Hi, thanks everyone getting towed and the cops will go to the body shop to do report.

                Cheers

Hi, so in anticipation that my car will be returned to me in the form of a cheque I am car shopping. I would like the trade to be a relative wash $ wise (give or take a couple of thousand) and was thinking W8 Passat as a replacement. What does everyone think of the W8?
