For TDI's though as you Gasser's don't have to worry about the high powered glow plugs and bigger starter.
Must point out that the "AH" on the yellow and red top batteries don't meet the tdi requirements, so tread carefully. TDi's require 80 AH, while the yellow and red only supply around 55 AH most times.
A few good places for batteries for your TDi,
Costco group 1 battery, $113.99 as my brother got one last night
Dealer, I know you would never guess but the dealer's TDi batteries are actually pretty good and the price is actually good I hear.
Bumper to bumper as well caries Exide 34/78 DT with a big warranty.
Thats all I know for sure, I could guess Napa and autozone all have batteries as well but I have not checked.

Re: Time for a new battery

Installed the battery last night, it went off pretty simple. Lost one screw to my skid plate, and cracked the battery box, but turning on the car with the new battery is such a difference. You can just feel how much more power it's throwing out.

Next up is new spark plugs.

Re: Time for a new battery

I did a little digging and the yellow top D35 only has 48 AH. I think I read somewhere on TDIclub that the TDIs require at least 80 AH if you are going to cycle the GPs a few times. There are some batteries available in the US that are 95 AH that will fit the MKIV battery enclosure. I have yet to find one here. They are usually too high to fit the strap that encloses the fuses and relays that sit on top of the battery. If anyone finds one let me know.

Just called 5th Ave and talked to Ben. They have the 1J0-915-105-AG for $135. Get down there quick as they only have 2 left. This is the OEM battery for the Jetta TDI.

Re: Time for a new battery

I will agree that the Canadian tire batteries are utter crap. I went through one every year in my old diesel. I have had Zero problems with my Canadian Energy batteries and I believe the warranty is 5 years. I think I will still yet a optoma yellow top for the van one of these days though.

Re: Time for a new battery

It started!!! It cranked very slowly and died a few times but I got it going. What really sucks is that I have a zero start heater sitting in my garage for the past 2 years....lame!

Mine didn't start. Looks like the blockheater plug was pretty corroded. Took some sandpaper to it to shine it up. Now when I plug it in you can hear the sizzling sound after a minute. Try again tomorrow.

Re: Time for a new battery

The car is back it normal again... starts like a dream and the remote opens the passenger door again. No stereo issues either. It would have been nice for VW to put in a battery with a little handle though. My frozen hands didn't appreciate lifting that thing out.
