  • Rear end noises.

I have an 02 GTI and when i reverse off my drive way, i get a loud, crunching/creaking noise from each side from the rear of the car. Could it be struts or bearings? Or maybe just creeking mk4 door pannels?
    Anyone had experince with this?

    Thanks.

    Re: Rear end noises.

if it were bearings you should hear them making noise other times as well,
    • is the noise continuous or just when you start moving / take the park brake off etc.
    • Do you park on your drive or in the garage,
    • Is the driveway pretty steep angle?
    • what if you put the park brake on while moving? does it repeat?
    Eric..

I had that same sound as well. It turned out to be a broken bracket on my rear sway bar (aftermarket).

my rear control arm bushings on my 01 jetta were chewed right out leading to some interesting clunks. Possibility?

if your rear brakes are almost wore out the rear calipers can rattle on the stepped slide .

Its got to be related to the rear suspension i guess. Maybe noisy bushings or something? Everyday driving and bumps is fine, but going in reverse at an angle down the drive way is bad. It will creek/crunch as each side of the back end lowers onto the street.
It has also done it a bit going down gulf parkade. (steep ramps at an angle)
