  • Anyone up for putting a Zerostart in my GTI?

So I've been saying that I'm going to get one of these for years and install it and I never get around to it. I wouldn't think twice about ripping apart my old car and doing whatever had to be done but I'm a hell of a lot more cautious with my GTI. So I'm wondering if anyone on here has some experience in putting one of these in and has a little time to spare to do it for me. I can be there to lend a had as well.

    The Car:
    2004 GTI 1.8T

PM me if you think you can help me out and how much you think is reasonable.

What about the 250W Polar Pad from Crappy Tire for my TDI. Sticks on the oilpan. Lots of guys use it on TDIclub.com. It is about 50/50 with the Zerostart.

I heard that oil pan heaters actually boil the oil if plugged in to long and will burn oil at the bottom of the pan leaving crustys in the pan........... there must be a reason why VW doesn't offer it anymore.

VW doesn't offer then anymore as there we reports of them falling off if not properly installed then sitting on the plastic belly pan and making the car into a nice big fire.

i still install those heaters but they have been upgraded.
in the old days only the cord was approved by the C.S.A and not the heating pad.
it boils the oil if someone puts it on a steel pan and the oil level is to low.
they work great and you don't have to worry about coolant leaks.

I have an EVO aluminum skidplate so no risk of fire. Maybe???

Has anyone ever put a zerostart in a GTI? In the manuel is says this:

                  "1998-2005 L4 - 1.8L (Turbo) — Call appropriate car dealership for application information —"

                  Has anyone come accross this?

Re: Anyone up for putting a Zerostart in my GTI?

For installation, I'm sure there's a writeup on vwvortex... or somewhere.

As for pan heater vs zerostart... Depends what you want... Oil pan heater will keep your oil warm so that the car starts easily. Zerostart heats the coolant, therefore keeping the entire engine warm, so you get easy start + instant heat (important in a TDI).

It's not to hard, took me 15min to install a 1500w in my sisters city. Plugged in for 3hrs and it was at 90c and stayed there when she left for work at 6am.
