Tire sizes?

I currently have 16'' vw wheels on my GTI with a size of tire 205/55R16.

Would there be any advantages or dissadvanges to putting a 225/50R16 on those same rims? Or would it be best to stay with a 205/55R16?

225/50R16 is 20mm wider, O.D. is comperable.
"Speedometer Difference: 0.083% too fast" - no biggie.
Don't know if there are mounting issues though.
Looking at a comparison chart:
205/55R16 Rim Width Range: 5.5 - 7.5 in
225/50R16 Rim Width Range: 6 - 8.5 in

So it might work if your rim width is between 6 and 7.5 inches....??

id take a guess and say that ur rim width is 6 to 6.5" if its a 16" rim!

Id personally stick with the 205/55...why do you want a bigger tire?

guessing cause there is a set for sale on here.
if you are looking for winter traction though, the narrower one will be better.

I was going to go bigger cuz i think they look nicer on the GTI and i thought the wider tire would handel better?

Well i have alseasons now that are pretty worn so i was debating on what tires to get next.

Summer Traction: Wider is better.
Winter Traction: Narrower is better.

As for me... f*#% it... I'm ballin' on 18's all year round.
