I used to have a 99 Golf 2.0 as well. I really enjoyed it. Modded the exterior mainly because I noticed most money put into the engine didnt go anywhere.

I had a CAT Cam from TRAC Racing in Montreal that was pretty aggressive, and I coupled it with the ABD Q-Flow from C1. Noticed absolutely no gains on the ABD Q-Flow, only a big increase in sound. I kept it in because of the deep throaty sound it provided, sounds really mean! The cam on the other hand was the most worthwhile mod I ever did to the 2.0. The 2.0 litre only has a single cam, so a cam upgrade is pretty cheap since you only have to buy one. And depending on how agressive the cam you get is (mine was 268 degree), it can make a huge difference. GIAC even has programs that are made for an aftermarket camshaft for the 2.0, so if you got those two they would be your best gains.

If you get an intake, exhaust, cam, chip. You might be lucky to hit 135 hp. Now you can bypass all the small stuff and get a supercharger or turbo kit. For ease of use, the VF Engineering or Neuspeed supercharger kits are the best out there, truly a bolt on application that requires no maintenance and no headaches and nets 50% increase in HP so puts about 170hp.

hey thanks for the info, if a cam is that worthwhile i think i might even throw one in right off the bat, its cheeper than a CAI from C1, any ideas how much labour on a cam install would be?

right away im getting my old stereo installed, and getting it tinted, but after that i think i might do a cam and chip, then maybe when i get back from australia in the spring i can afford to spend money on an intake and exhaust

dunno about installation price, but its pretty easy on the 2.0 i'm told, my buddy that works at the dealership did it for me back in manitoba.

if you had a exhaust, intake, cam and a chip thats made for the cam, then you'll definately have a quick 2.0. for maximum gains, make sure the chip is made for that cam. mine wasn't, but i'm sure a few extra HP would have been produced if it was.

GIAC makes custom chips for Schrick cams, thats all I know.

I recently installed a cam in a 2.0 and it made a world of difference in that motor!!! The guy says it will now keep up with mustangs (yeah right!!) which is a little far fetched but it did bring it to life. For the price i would put a cam in it as i have felt the difference myself.
