Small consolation but the lowers are painted stock now hahahaha....
too bad it doesn't get the valvelift system the longitudinally mounted 2.0T's get and its only power gains are from a re-worked intake per that article.
The front bumper is all one piece this time, so now changing lips only. The back is one piece too, but looks like you could change the center plastic section.

-Overpriced
-Underpowered
-Bigger and Heavier
-Styling Uninspired
Interior does look good though
To each his own, but I've got to wonder about this one.
Overpriced - compared to what? Official pricing has not been announced, and the current GTI is priced fairly close to its main competitors.
Underpowered - Since when has the GTI been about absolute power? Its supposed to be a fun to drive, well balanced hot hatch, for those that arent after the whole boy racer look. Besides, its not exactly slow. Lots of people have been running sub 15 second quarter miles in bone stock cars. Its not mind bogglingly fast, but thats not what I would call underpowered.
Bigger and heavier - Do you know something I dont, because as far as I know, the official curb weight hasnt been announced yet. Besides, the car is clearly MKV based, so its overall dimensions and weight should be very similar to the outgoing MKV.
The styling is subjective, so Ill leave that one alone, but I think it looks great! Much more aggressive than the current GTI. I cant wait to see what the rumored GTI-R is going to look like!
Personally I love it and if I could make the finances and timing work I would put a deposit down ASAP on one. I think for 30-35k it is a great balance of fun, speed, practicality and luxury and while shopping for a new car I keep coming back to the GTI and now the MKVI is coming I like it even more.

I am in the exact same boat. I was planning on getting a new car in a year or 2 once i done school. So this should be perfect timing.
And regardless if whether the GTI is about absolute power, this car is probably among the very slowest so-called "hot hatches" now. In Europe it was so non-competitive that they started selling Mk5 GTIs with 240hp so this car is actually slower than its predecessor.
A GTI is now even slower than a stock Civic :/
I will give you that it has a nice interior though.
