  • Check your HOSE

Noticed the same sort of deal when I was on vacation - no codes, but it's been idling a little weird. It's completely rotted due to the oil. Now I wish we'd done that oil catch can GB. :(

OEM part is apparently 70+ bucks and just as crappy. I've seen a few vortex threads on feelers for replacement samco-like parts but can't see anything on the major shop sites. Anyone have a source?

I'd also like to put a can on if anyone has a good one or all in 1 solution.

Can't believe how many people on vortex have has the same problem around 70K miles - damn thing.

What part is this? Do you have a wider frame shot for reference so a newbie knows where to look?

          Thanks

Pretty much anyone over 80K apparently. There's another one down below that cracks as well but harder to get at to replace.

              Awesome! Thank you very much.

I'll check it out tonight. I'm at 126K and other than oil changes and such I don't believe the previous owners of my car did much else. I'm going in to tunedub to get my TB and water pump done Monday, I may have to add this to the list.

Doesn't Samco make a silicone replacement? Like the upper intercooler hose?

Just a tip if you want to save money

You can get some black rubber hose that is the exact right diameter at Auto Value or any of those shops. Its heat proof and is just plan black, like a radiator hose.

Then you can just buy a black plastic Y fitting and use that to make the Y shape. It all hooks up nicely with hose clamps.

It won't look pimpin' but it probably costs $10

Edit: Or just use the hose to go into a catch can.

                        Re: Check your HOSE

Theres a place in the south end called "ability hose" that can custom fabricate a hose to your specifications and replaced it with braided stainless steel. looks great and great quality. I did this for my old 2001 A4 on a power steering hose that was notorious for breaking due to preasure and heat.

and the part was signifigantly cheaper to custom make then the price from audi.

                          Re: Check your HOSE

Read a bit on vortex and went ghetto heater hose route as Kor mentioned. Hose was 3 bucks, couple clamps and the T (3/4 x3) is from underground sprinklers for a couple bucks.

Attached pic of it. Beats paying 40+ for another wimpy hose. Only issue is the engine cover won't be going back on anytime soon.
