  • Anyone have experience with techtonics tuning products?

    Namely, their downpipes?
I'm debating getting their 2.5" downpipe for my GTI (as it eliminates the first cat but keeps a 400cell secondary metal cat so it won't cause a CEL without software) with the adapter to mate it to my stock exhaust.

Not really thinking of the APR dp + stage 2 because that's well in excess of my plans for the car (trying to keep it as close to 258 ft*lbs of torque as I can as that's the max normal spec for the DSG transmission's clutches)...maybe Upsolute and the TT downpipe, I'll need a new DV and that should be all she wrote....

Tried searching the whoretex and golfmkv but very few mkv's have the TT downpipe....

get the entire exhaust .otherwise the downpipe cant really do a good job . it would be like having a huge funnel , no matter what size the big end is you still have to get it out the small end and yes unitronic 1

Ya...but I'm not a fan of the way ANY exhaust sounds on the 2.0TFSI...its not the good Subaru burble, it is the crappy sounds like a poorly tuned diesel burble-fart-rasp.

I know the downpipe does make a difference sound-wise in any case, but I'll sacrifice max power in order to keep the stock exhaust (not looking for optimum power, just an increase in fun while still keeping within "safe" spec of the DSG box's clutches)

I got the ST 2.5" catless DP mated to a Magnaflow catback system. Getting it installed today. We'll see how it sounds.

Re: Anyone have experience with techtonics tuning products?

I had a SS Techtonics on my Mk4 Jetta

Came from them with a Borla muffler

Didn't have proper exhaust hangers, had to have some better ones welded on.

My car was low and initially the axel banged on the exhaust where the exhaust went over it. Eventually we adjusted this with some hammering.

Performance was awesome and the quality of the welds and bends were awesome. It was a 3"

Overall I would say that my main reservation is that for the money I did not feel like I got as much as some vendors offer. No nice tips or nice muffler, it wasn't a polished exhaust at all, it was just some pipe and a borla muffler.

But it did perform well and if you have an expert helping you install it then I would say you will be happy with the sound and performance.

I got the cat back for my 97 ( old exhaust was rotted and only @ 4 years old) Its has been on for about a year, came with a borla muffler -great sound and doesnt rattle or anything , pretty happy with it and easy to install did get a tip put on it tho. Also way cheaper then a muffler shop could match.
