Weird, how they mention the design chief saying how great the MkIV was and how the MkV sucked donkey balls...all I ever heard about the MkIV is how the MkIII was better or how the MkIV was a step backwards...

Then again, Car and Driver is not exactly the epitome of unbiased (or unbought) opinions. The only one worse is Motortrend (whose "best x of XXXX" is not actually based on what's best in the segment, only what's best among "brand new redesigned models for that year"....meaning if something was not redesigned but was class leader by a longshot, it would not win the award).

Then again, the MkV is plagued by (the omnipresent since the 1.8t days) DV failures now joined by crappy PCV system and even MOAR rattles and wind noise and timing pull even on stage 1 tunes...Oh and loose subframe bolts, and miscellaneous FAIL....

Oh, the timing pull on the top end is with cars running even just stage 1 APR or stage 1 REVO (as per golfmkv.com).

I like the style of the mkv the best personally BUT....due to safety laws (i.e. not killing pedestrians), the ungodly height of all new vehicles is ridiculous. People used to complain about 4x4'ing on stock ride height on previous gen VW's (oh god, if you guys saw my old Audi A4 when it was stock height...Gapina was alive and well on that one...). That and the trunk spoiler is too short. Looks....abridged or aborted.....

I owned a 2003 MKIV GTI VR6, and when I was considering a MKV GTI, I simply couldn't get over the inferior build quality of the interior. Too simplistic and unappealing, reminded me of econo cars. MKIV interior was nice, more like audi interiors whereas the MKV looked like they were trying to save money, and their exteriors reminded me of japanese designs.
MKIV chassis was not the greatest from a performance point of view though.
              MKVI looks promising...

I really like the MkV interior a lot, materials are decent, it is not cluttered, and it is positioned well so you can see it. I can see why some people would like the MkIV interior better but the center console is far too low to look at comfortably.

                  You've got PM.
Once I get chipped I'm contemplating the deviantspeed fix.
It disables the front PCV while still allowing the rear to function (like the EJ fix but instead of using cnc'd plates to block it off, use 3/4"-7/8" rubber expansion plugs). There's guys with 30000 or more miles using the fix, no emissions or any other problems, again, it only disables the front pcv not the rear (the front is where them thar boost leaks come from).
