  • Mobil 1 0W-40 Oil Question

Should this be the oil of choice for a 3.2L 24-Valve DOHC V6 in a '04 VW R32? Anyone else running something else in their V6's?

Gotta oil change coming up in 500 miles so doing my homework early!

    Cheers... and Thanks. Deuce.

Re: Mobil 1 0W-40 Oil Question

I only run Castrol syntec 5W 40 in my VR. I'm not sure of the grade for the 3.2 but I know all other VW products use Castrol.

castrol is not the best choice . castrol is the reason most vw products have the sludge in the oil pans and oil passages of the engine . I recommend Total/Elf or amsoil or Mobil one and perform a engine flush every third oil change . If your in Calgary George has Total i believe . i know i switched out all my tanks to only hold Total .

How about the Motul 5W40 or 0W40 if you can find it? I run the Motul 5W40 in mine.

The only place I could find Motul is the Mr. Lube on 16 Ave right by Peter's Drive-in. Only because one of the guys there has a TDI. I have heard it can be had at Country Hills Toyota too. And as Turbomeyers says, do a flush every third change.

Re: Mobil 1 0W-40 Oil Question

I just use the ESSO 0w40 full synthetic which is very close if not the same as the mobil 1. You can get it from Walmart, or I just go and get it by the case from the Esso lubrication's place down off Barlow at the fuel depot. Why well it has been mulled over over at TDICLUB and this is a full PTO synthetic oil and will meet the 505.00 VW No problem. People have had oil analysis done with it to at 10,000 and 15,000 km's and have had great results.
The big thing is cost, Walmart is $24 for 4 liters, and the bulk place I pay like $94 will all taxes and enviro fee's for 4x4 liters. Why even think about Castrol unless you can't find this stuff?

I use Penzoil plat 5/40 and change filter every time. The filter craps out long before synth oil does.

Curious, what do the VW dealerships in Calgary stock? Would I be able to ask for Amsoil, Motul, Total/Elf, Mobil... or is it all QuakerState or whatever?
