We just received a letter from VW Canada stating that for the 2003-2005 Model Year VW Jetta, Golf, GTI, R32, etc that they are extending the warranty in relation to the front door window regulator clips to seven years from the vehicle's original in-service date.
If I recall corrrectly, some forum members incurred costs to replace the clips so you might be eligible to seek a reimbursement of expenses.
Not exactly sure why the warranty was not extended for pre-2003 vehicles as it appears that those MKIVs were the most impacted by the failures.
Here are some excerpts from the letter:
What is the problem
On some vehicles, the front door window regulator clip that connects the window glass to the operating mechanism can malfunction unexpectedly. If this happens, the affected window will no longer move up or down.
What will Volkswagen do
In our continuing efforts to assure proper performance of Volkswagen vehicles, your dealer will diagnose and repair a malfunctioning front window regulator clip at no cost to you as long as the vehicle remains within the time limits of this warranty extension.
