  • Any service reps on here?? I need some help.

So the short story is that I have been hearing a metal rattling noise coming from the underbody of my mkIV Jetta lately and because of work haven't been able to bring it into George until today. From the noise he tells me that it's the catalytic converter and that because my car is extremely close to 193km (192700km) to stop driving it now!
I made a few calls to the dealership and found out that there is an extended warranty for 10yrs/193km. I booked an appointment at 5th Ave, but they didn't give me any guarantees about documenting my mileage at the moment and that I had to come in to place a work order. Now, I do not want to drive my car because of my job which requires me to run around town and I'll probably go over 193km by the time of my appointment.

I'm just wondering if there is anything else that I can do so that I can still qualify for the warranty on the catalytic converter?

    Thanks in advance.

I just pulled my letter out, the extension is 10 years or 160k km. They might extend it to 193 if they feel like it, but I wouldn't count on it.

Why not rip the stock exhaust out and put a 2.5" downpipe and 2.5" piping straight out.

This was what I am hoping for, if not I might go for the downpipe route..

I went down to the dealership yesterday, but I don't think it mentioned anything about the 2000 models... unless I missed it on the letter.

Unfortunately, there isnt any type of goodwill period on warranty extentions if you go over the km limit. Once you are over 193k you are screwed.

That's why when I booked an appointment I also went in to get a work order stating that my car was under 193km at the time I called just so the dealership has it on record (also took a picture and dated it just to be sure).

Is there any way to tell my engine type from the VIN#?
