Programming a key

So my flip key blade broke over the weekend, so I need to get a new blade and have it reprogrammed. Southcentre and Northland can cut me a key on the spot but neither can get me in for programming until the end of the week.

This is my only key, so I can't drive my car currently and I have to get it towed to the dealer.

Is it possible for any of you guys with vag-com to reprogram my key, or does it have to be done through the dealer?

There are a couple vag-com like items that can do keys but a ross-tech vag-com cable can't do it. I didn't think that the metal part of the blade had anything to do with the immobilizer though but I could be wrong.

The blade part is separate from the transmitter section. Just pull the new blade section off and put it on the original transmitter section.

yep! the keys are 2 parts.. put the new metal blade onto the old body!

brent i don't think the vagcom lets you do keys your right.. otherwise people would be stealing cars ahoy!

Ok this is what I assumed was the case, but I just got off the phone with both Northland and Southcentre and they both said the car needs to be towed and the key needs to be re-programmed.

But my fob still works as I can still unlock and lock the car, but I just need a new blade.

So you guys are sure I can just pick up a new blade and Im good to go?

should be.. give it a try at least.. i know my S4 key slides into my brothers b5.5 passat no problem it just won't turn because of the IMMOB in the key fob

brent i don't think the vagcom lets you do keys your right.. otherwise people would be stealing cars ahoy!

You would still need to turn the car on to scan it and get the code to program a new key so there is no worry in that.

or if you are in a bind, get the key cut at the dealer and tape your old key near your cluster and it will still start and run fine until some one can program the new key.
