  • Radar Detectors in Calgary

    Thinking of getting a radar detector (likely an Escort Passport 8500 X50 Blue). Does anyone know who sells these still in town? Have tried searching the 'net but it appears that the shops don't exactly advertise that they sell radars.

    Help!

    I use to work at London Drugs, and they have some there (I worked in the Camera Department where you would find these detectors) However not all London Drugs carry the same stuff (some have more electronics than others). I am only 50% sure that they have the one you are looking for. They also price match so look around!

      radardetectors.com was the best price when i got mine, and by quite a bit. that was several years ago now though.

              Cheaper than $340 + GST? That's what it runs on www.radarbusters.com

              Just curious.

                  Bought one today from Sean at Visions. Very happy with the price. Not going to talk details but if you've read my thread above... you know my limit already.

                  Anyhow, somewhat related question: Does Canadian law enforcement use X-Band at all? I don't think they do... but was just curious. Seems like the only thing X-Band related that has set off my old radar detector in like 10 years was the local mini-mall. Does anyone know?

                        Re: Radar Detectors in Calgary

                        Calgary police only use laser other than multinovas which are rear firing narrowband KA. I have a bell 985 and unless you get lucky and the multi bounces off a car in front, you get no warning.

                        There are no in car radar setups that I know of.

                        RCMP use laser when they are setup and instant-on KA when moving or just parked and being lazy. They just flip a switch on the dash.

                          Beltronics STi Driver is an awesome radar/laser detector with TotalSheild. You can read a little and see a review about it on these sites;
                          http://www.beltronics.com/sti.html
                          http://www.radarbusters.com/motorcyc...ardetector.cfm

                          Combine it with a Blinder M25 or M45 Laser Jammer with a very stealthy install will be the best protection you can get from Radar and Laser jammers. M25 has 2 laser blocking unit's and the M45 has 4 blocking units, and yes we can put them all out front to get superior front protection.

                            speaking of radar, has anyone heard of what became of the red light cameras being used for speed? I believe they converted a few in Calgary as a test to monitor (but not ticket), but I would think the testing would be over by now as that was probably alomost a year ago.
