  • 01 1.8t Need an exhaust

Hey Guys, I'm new to the VW scene and am used to loud, until now my daily driver has been a diesel truck with stacks, so I need to do something with the exhaust on the Jetta. I want something quite a bit louder but so help me god if it sounds like a honda its going in a lake lol.
What would you recommend? I dont want to spend much money on it yet so if cutting out the cat or resonators or mufflers, (I dont really know what all this has on it) will sound good im willing to try that first.
Otherwise where's a good place to take a Vdub in calgary?
Also I've heard removing the cat will put the CEL on, is that true, and if so is there a way around it not involving taking the bulb out or putting electrical tape over it?
    Thanks in advance, Fred.

Depending on your budget, you can either go with a namebrand one or go custom. Yes removing your cat will kick on the CEL...limited value since the cat is mated directly to the exhaust outlet on the turbo (assuming the transverse ones are identical to the longitudinal 1.8t I had in my A4), you'd be better served going with a catless downpipe and getting the associated programming.

Check out my thread about "removing resonator", some of the guys on their removed the resonator off their 1.8t.

So where would I get the car programmed to get rid of the CEL from the cat being removed?
My biggest problem with the exhaust is that it sounds like letting air out of a tire, there is no tone to it at all just a "shhhhhh"
Budget would like to keep around 500 bucks , maybe more if I had to buy a downpipe off ebay.
Thanks again, any information is better then none.

        GHL

        Eurojet

        TT w/ Borla

        42DD

        Magnaflow

        Autotech (use magnaflow mufflers)

Wicked tuning - makes a very affordable turbo-back (cheap)

Megan racing also makes catless downpipes that will make your stock catback sound a little better (cheap)

Those are just a few suggestions. If you youtube them, you will probably find a video clip or two of each. It is up to you to do the research and decide which one is right for you. Not all of the above are on the same page in regards to quality and pricing.

I also suggest that you do the down pipe first because it will give you best bang for your buck in terms of performance. It will also change your exhaust note slightly (it changed mine).

As for the check engine light, the cheapest way to get rid of it is to get your self a wayne angle block. Its basically just a spacer that prevents your car from throwing a CEL. It worked for me.

        Hope that helps

Your best bet might be to order it directly from them. They always have sales. Last X-mas they had a 20% off everything sale.

Personally I'd leave the cat and get a Brullen catback - it's pretty loud and you're not being an ass just for a few dbs. Or get a remote trigger for a dump tube on demand (although that will be pretty silly if you're stock hp.

See I just dont like the idea of paying 1000.00 for a catback (965 for brullen) are there any decent cheap ones?
I payed 470.00 for a 4" 304 stainless magnaflow exhaust for my truck and that was a turbo back with a polished 5" tip!

i went with a GHL turboback for my car, with the hi-flow cat on it.

i love the sound of it, very deep for a 4banger. however it was much more expensive then some others. i think i paid a little over 1g for the full system
