  • Stripped Screw has ruined my day off :(

So my GLI didn't come with a arm rest I dunno I guess volkswagen felt like the special editions didn't need them, no clue why. Anyways I order one of ebay and it arrived today on my day off I couldn't believe my luck so as I started ripping apart my center console to attach this I come across a stripped screw its pretty mangled and I've tried every screw driver head nothing is catching this. Anyone have any idea what I can do to remove this stubborn screw. Have a picture.

You are using a star bit right, T15 I believe.

its not that hard bud... try some needle nose plyers..
get in there and grip on the head and turn...
maybe an easyout if its mangled really good...
but from the pictures it just looks like you need some time and patients and it will come out... dont worry about it...

Dremel a slot into it for a flathead

        Or

You can buy those drill bits that bite into metal and unscrew screws.

screw extractors, but it doesn't look stripped to me, make sure you are using the correct Torx bit as "burley" mentioned above

Just go one size bigger and tap it into place carefully...should come off with ease

yeah, that works too. I guess make sure you have teh right torx bit first, if you do, and its a no go, tapping in a size larger torx, or allen key, will probably give you enough to twist it out. I just had to do this for a rotor bolt on my mountain bike.

I only have it up when racing - else it's always down. I don't think I'd buy a car without one.

I used to always have mine up and hated it in my Mk4

                      Depends on the car though.

You guys should stop working out; Stop having the armrest get in the way of your big bulky arms...

Mk3 no arm rest to Mk4 with armrest took some time to adjust. I wouldn't go back.

To be constructive, the suggestions given in here all work well.

Try driving 25 hours straight with no armrest, I dont think I could have made it without it, mines always down.

Those screw extractors usually work pretty good, i would defenitly try a bigger torx bit first though.
