Wierd A/C Noise

Hey when i have my a/c on i get a popping/crackling sound that comes from the left front of the car. And with a/c off it gone. A/c still works fine, just sounds wierd.

any ideas?

left front of the car as your standing in front of it or from the drivers seat.
what kind of car is it?
could be an orifice tube or expansion valve depending on A/C system.

drivers side 2002 Jetta TDI
