  • 1.8T running rich

Hey guys, this morning my car smelled like it was running rich on start up. It is a 2000 Audi TT with the 180 HP engine. The car is really low KMs 60,000. from my research a coolant temp sensor or an exhaust leak are common causes for this symptom. Does anyone else have any tips on where to start for this problem? I've also noticed my fuel economy gone down a bit.

I forgot to mention the car is totally stock too.

Check that one of your coils hasn't popped up a fraction.

The coils on my engine are held down by two hex screws, I'll check but think they are on there pretty tight.

If a coolant sensor is a common cause have a scan done to see if you have a code for that. I did and had it replaced under extended warranty by VW. apparently it is a common issue for the 1.8 (VW sent me a letter to put it under extended warranty). Mine is an 03 passat and simply replacing that part fixed a multitude of ills...

Yeah maybe a intake cleaning wouldn't hurt also. I did the whole maf, coolant temp, plugs and coils and George found out it just needed an intake/fuel flush.. $125 later and she ran like new.

PLugs and filter were done. Its prolly the MAf or CTS, it might be a pre recall one. I'll check.

if the coolant temp sensor is black, its garbage. new ones are green.
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3
