  • Specs for Stock MKIV - 1.8T/VR6

I'm in the market for a 2000-2002 Jetta or GTI (Pending selling my truck..it's conditional, yay!) and currently have my eye set on a 2000 GTI GLX VR6 or a 2001 Wolfsburg Jetta 1.8T. I've been trying to get some research done.
Does anybody know the stock Engine specs for the 1.8T and the 2.8 VR6 for the 2000-2002 models? (Torque and HP). I've had a chance to drive the 1.8T but not yet the VR6. I would expect the VR6 too be a little more powerful off the line (no turbo lag?) but how do they really compare?
I've been torn between the two engines for a little while (the GTI and the jetta too..) and have heard that in regards to mileage the VR6 is a heavier consumer (to be expected). Does anyone know by how much? With the gas price differences for premium vs. regular would the cost be negligible? The Canadian government fuel ratings website is showing the following:

Which seems to indicate that the average user is not going to notice the difference. Can anybody attest to this?

Re: Specs for Stock MKIV - 1.8T/VR6

    Welcome to the site!
First off I wouldnt put anything but premium in either of them. A 1.8t stock in the city i saw around 500-550 with fairly spirited driving, a friend with the 12v VR6 is lucky to see 400 doing the same kind of driving. Also if you plan on doing any performace modding the 1.8T will get by far the most bang for your buck. The eariler 1.8T's have 150hp 2002+ were 180hp, the 12 VR6 is 170ish HP and the 24v at 200HP.
With gas prices were they are at the 1.8T makes the most sense, but a VR6 with exhaust is pure sex =). Hope that might of cleared a fews things up for you

ha ha not another 1.8VSVR6 thread. I just did a big drive; about 3000km, with my 24v VR and was pulling in about 600km/50l tank on 91 octane gas driving about 115km/h. I was impressed as my last car was a 12v and could barely do 400 on the highway. all I have for engine mods is a short ram intake. and exhaust which is pure sex !!!!

            GTI for the WIN

I have a 24v GTI and the price of gas isn't to bad, I can get about 430 kms on a tank in the city and that is driving decently. They say if you burn premium in your car you get better hp and fuel economy so if thats the case, burning premium will pretty much even out the price of regular if your getting more miles/ gallon.
