  • No Warranty on Imported 2009 US Models

Made a call to VW today and you are greeted with a message saying all U.S. 2009 models' warranty will not be transferable. As I was looking into R32 possibilities, 2008 warranties will be honoured here. VW will not be bringing R32s into Canada.

BTW, the RIV will not give info on the updated list, we have to wait for it, as it is in the works....

ya who cares. small fixes you can do yourself. big ones, just drive/tow to montana...

guess it depends how bad you want a model thats not here or how much you are going to save buying down there.

2008s are not admissable because they have a lower suspension than '07s therefore the bumpers aren't at the same height -> needed new testing for canada or they din't pass or something along those lines.

with the harmonization, 2008s may be admissible.

this is what i figure as a result of moving back from the states in january and having to search the entire US in november to find an '07

Wonder if any of the local dealerships will start bringing up '04 and '08 R32's now? I'd definitely like to test drive one... or two... or three...

Only problem now is... the 1-series Beemer has filled the majority of the void that was left over from RIV, Transport Canada and VW telling me over, and over... and over again... "YOU CAN'T IMPORT A STINKIN' R32 O.K.! FORGET ABOUT IT!"

Sadly enough... now that it's available... I'm not sure that I really care anymore.

I got the warranty spiel from the Audi dealership to which my response was "If think your car will bugger up more than the $10,000 I'll save by getting it in the US, then I should be looking at another brand then."

I don't know what the price difference on the VW's are but I'm pretty sure I didn't get more than about $1,500 in warranty work done on my GTI during my warranty period.

Maybe so, but I think audi's can get very expensive when they start to break. After a few discussions with my neighbor who used to work at glenmore audi I would'nt want to own a newer audi without warranty.

                      Are you kidding me?

I'm with NeonGTI on this one. If the car is going to cost you more than $10,000 in repairs... then why the h*ll buy an Audi? Like really... c'mon... don't you guys understand that things these days are engineered to basically break "After" your warranty period is over?

O.k., fine... perhaps you get a so-called "Lemon" (ie. the car that came out of the factory at like 4:43pm on a Friday. Fair enough. But c'mon... that's like a 1 in 100 chance.

I'll take my chance and save $10,000. WORST CASE SCENARIO... perhaps it'll break and I'll end up breaking even. Doh.

Of course ANY car can turn out to be a lemon, and my neighbor would have seen the worst case's at the dealership. But there were quite a few doozy's. If you do need to bring your audi into the dealership for work I would imagine its far from cheap. If you have the means to work on it yourself then you're golden.

So is the warranty void on 2009 audis, because I thought u.s. cars were still warrantied here?
