172,000 km looks good in the pic's, (bone stock) im looking at it today after work if it is an really good shape what would top dollar be ? the seller is asking 5 g's. what are some things on the mkIII's to look for besides a rusty hatch

hmmm no, haha im looking for something to commute from airdrie in, it does not have to be fancy but i would like something in good shape that runs strong

I wouldn't pay anything more than 3k for a CL, and it would have to be pretty minty for that.

here are the options that were listed
5 speed, 2 door, 4cyl, 2.0L, sunroof, pl, pb, ps, rear window defrost, anti-theft, remote power start, keyless entry,, i was thinking 3800-4000 if it is tip top but I have no experiance with MK3's

If it's a 2.0L then it's a GL not a CL. Did they even make a CL in 97?

GL is worth more and parts are aplenty.

Those that are saying 3g's are close but if you look in the trader they are getting more than that for them. If it's mint it could fetch 5000.

I will check it out an a couple hours, I was thinking with a sun roof and power everything with a 2l it might not be a cl....

if its a cl, no more then 4, but gl, maybe 4500 or so, depends on the shape

sold my gl jetta with 180k, good shape, 97 for 5000, 2 years ago

so it turns out it is a cl with a 1.8l but it is ultra clean, no rust, mint interior, everything feels tight clutching and shifting, one owner, most services done at dealer but 5 g's still seams a little steep to me. this car would need nothing that i can see, what do you experts think does anyone have access to a blue book to check price?

is it a manual? if it is, i think its an excellent commuter car. awesome on gas, really good quality, reliable engine
but if its auto, i don't think vw is the best auto car

it is a five speed, i think i am going to have a mechanic look it over and go from there, hopefully i can get the price down a bit...
