  • Just bought a spare ECU

Hey guys. I just bought a spare ECU from Montgomery Autoparts. Used and it cost me $508 CAD shipped and after tax. Is this a good deal or did I get soaked? Impex was selling for ~$375USD + delivery +duty. I asked Montgomery what a new one would cost and they told me ~$670CAD +tax. Are there any cheaper prices?

Hehehe. You know what happens next.:mrpimp:

Right now, I'm leaning towards UP. Local support is a good thing. But APR and Revo are definately not out of the cards yets. One of the threee fo sure though.

Do you know when they applied? better yet, do you know when they expect to become a dealer?

Ken applied last week. It takes APR a few weeks to make a decision. Ken will inform me if or when he becomes a dealer -- I will make a post -- trust me.

Did you say $850US is a good deal for some software? Yikes.

I think your spare ECU cost less than mine... I can't remember exactly but I think I paid $550-$600 for a new one.

If you ordered a used one, are you sure you are going to be able to swap it into your car? The procedure is different...

Still don't think its worth $850US But I guess I am more budget-conscious.

Different procedure? What do you mean? It is used with the same code as mine. I was gonna ask you if you had to do anything special to change out the ecus.

You can view both procedures for swapping Used and New ECUs at Ross Tech below:

                            http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/car...-swapping.html

To sum it up, for a NEW ecu you will need to get your Immobilizer SKC for your current ecu from the VW dealer. This is quite tricky at some dealerships. But it IS possible - I did it.

For a USED ecu you need TWO immobilizer SKCs. One for your old ECU and one for the USED ecu. I am not sure how to get the Immobilizer SKC for a used ECU since when I went to the dealership they also needed a Vehicle ID to do the lookup.

"Bring both 14-digit ID numbers to your dealer and request both your seven-digit SKC's"

Anyway you may want to start talking to your dealership to see if they are going to help you on this...
