  • HUGE Problem

    OK... Here goes....

I was at the dealership tonight talkin to good ol Mike and I am on the fence about buying a Passat Wagon....

    Pros

    - extra room
    - smooth ride
    - Audi Tranny
    - not many modded Passat around
    - Projection headlamps
    - Classy looking and feeling

    Cons

    - 16" wheels
    - Sportiness GONE
    - 1.8T sideways to accomidate 4 motion
    - loss of 10 HP compared to Jetta 1.8T

Please feel free to voice your opinions... Pros and or Cons about me buying this Passat....

Its not going to be W8 or 4 motion

    Thx:mrsly:

Well if you are buying a Passat wagon, then realize the car is not gonna be all about hp and speed. Therefore its mostly going to be about tastefully modding it and throwing on massive wheels. If you are so inclined to own a wagon, why not get the jetta 1.8t wagon? I am sure it can still be sporty and it can look fly.

                            Cons

                            - 16" wheels
You can always upgrade the wheels/tires

                            - Sportiness GONE
Really? It could cause by the longer wheelbase. The front suspension geometry design is better than McPherson

                            - 1.8T sideways to accomidate 4 motion
The gear box are way better built than any MK4 no second gear grind issue. If I need a car any time from now I’ll go with 1.8T w/4MO.

                            - loss of 10 HP compared to Jetta 1.8T
It is better to compare the hp that available on the wheel.

                            Pros
                            -front/rear swaybars can DIY.

19”? to me is like the driver is no where near Performance. It more likely the car go slow and show.

                              thought the same thing

thought the same thing before I chose a GTI, I'll go out on a limb here,

Personally I drove the 1.8 T Passat, and hated the triptonic, and felt that the engine was too weak for the size of the car. Ultimately the car needs 225-240 hp to feel very quick at all. For me, the Passat was not an option with the 1.8T.

The other thing is that everyone with a GTI feels the need to mod the hell out of it to make it 'different'. Fact is its a very enjoyable, quick, relatively luxurious car to drive, good effective transportation and reasonably well priced given the overall package.

Only if you punk out your car does it become less respectable than a Passat. In my overly stated opinion, your car is really tasteful, leave her as she is, your car is sweet, enjoy it, when it's dead or dying or really inadequate replace it, till then, just enjoy it!

                              Flame On!

Having said all that, wagons are sweet and we're the first generation that's not scared dead of them since we don't have a wood paneled history(that we remember). Good practical, yet stylish cars, but I'm still not ready...
