  • 2.0L Overheating

    Hey guys,

My 2.0L Golf just recently started overheating. The temperature on it goes to 120C. The fans kick in when its 110C and turn off when its 100C. When I turn the car off @ 120C the fans go off too.

There are no modifications done to the engine. It has alittle over 60k on it.

Anyone ever see this before? any suggestions?

Sensor is cheap and you can replace it yourself... if that doesn't work and you're not mechanically inclined, take it to one of our sponsor shops and they'll sort out your pump.

Seen the problem, ever had the timing belt done?
Reason I ask is before I have seen a 2.0 customers car come in with the same problem and the water pump was on its way out. VW used a plastic impeller for their oem water pumps and they tend to over time crack and slip on the metal shaft. When a timing belt is done (atleast on a 2.0 and tdi that I know of) you should always replace the pump if it is oem plastic impeller. The ones that get put in are metal and don't have the same problem. Whats your millage? Might be time for that timing belt to be done.

havent had the timing belt done. its a 03 golf with 60k on it.

So I replaced the coolant temp. sensor and the thermostat and the problem still persists.

So for the 3rd or maybe 4th time, it is most likely your water pump. Need a new one.

Would do the belt and tensioner to while you have everything else off. You already have everything off for it why not just finish the job...
