  • Bad Missfire and VagCom wot connect?

So, Ric was kind enough to come over and plug his vag com into my golf to try and help diagnose the miss fire but the software wouldnt see the car, just wouldnt connect. When he tried it in his it worked straight away!

so looking for help on two fronts, anyone know why it wouldnt connect to a 2000 GTI? it did work last year when one of the guys plugged in during the Dyno run, he got in no problem. anyone with the full vagcom version want to give it a try?

And the missfire, seems to be dropping a cylinder when the boost starts to build, typical symptom of a weak spark making the situation worse under higher cylinder compression. can drive it as normal until it gets over 2000 rpm then if you ask for power above gently acceleration it starts to stutter. youve gotta say coil pack first out but just wondering if anyones had anything else similar. Plus George replaced the two most unreliable coil packs just a month or so ago (apparently this year car has two types of coils in).

    Anyone got any ideas?

anyone got a spare coil pack i can try and diagnose with?

    anyone?

I had connection problems trying to scan a car with an aftermarket deck that didn't have the K line hooked up properly. Unplugging the deck allowed it to scan.

The software has a settings screen where you can verify the connection, that is how I found it was the K-line.

Thats interesting, i do have an aftermarket deck and i have changed it since the last time it was scanned, though it was still an aftermarket one then as well.

sometimes if you just turn off the deck the Vagcom will be ok... other times you may have to unplug the deck and any jumper harnesses!

I have aftermarket decks in both of mine, never had a problem

We did run the test cable thing... showed up just fine

Pretty sure your deck was off at the time, wasn't it Eric?

Actual error that it showed on vag-com was 'could not sync to...' something..., cant quite remember, and on the screens when you run the auto scan, after a couple of seconds it usually shows a few lines of info, maybe vin number, etc, we didnt even get that - when I scanned my car, got it immediately....

            :(

The reason this problem shows up is that if an afternarket harness adaptor is used, the blue wire in the harness is the k-wire on the the factory harness and if people hook it up it either shows - or + on the wire not allowing the Vagcom to send data through it... simple fix don't hookup the wire it is wrong anyway because it should go through the ant wire.

                thats good thanks,
so, should the blue wire just be disconnected or connected to the antenna wire then because that blue as well right?

cant remember if the deck was off or just turned down Rick.

                Cheers

check the wiring diagram again because some of those harness's loop and the plug still has to be disconnected after the radio is removed.Good Call.
