  • Annoying Problem

okkk.... the other day my alarm kept randomly going off on my 03 GTI. then went away.. then the "open door" sign kept blinking on and off and by now it stays on all the times .... all my doors are closed (or i think so anyway) and im guessing this is the reason for my alarm going off as well... but i noticed the light goes away for a while if i open and shut the trunk.... and it keeps making these clicking sounds too whenever the lights comes on (sounds like the noise that your auto locks will make when you try to lock the doors while they are already locked) but i cant seem to figure out where the noise is coming from....

anywhooooo.... i cant even lock my car b/c the alarm starts going off ... i leave my hood popped that does the trick

but ya... anybody ever experience a problem like this ????
i remember reading something on these lines somewhere hmmmm

    waiting for feedback!
    cheers!

    Re: Annoying Problem

VAG COM should tell you which switch is triggering the alarm.
GTI best guess rear hatch switch or radio not pushed in all the way.

oh by the way the radio and front hood switch are on the same circuit i believe.

I had the same issue. It turned out to be the hood sensor.
Nothing special to do, except to get it replaced

When my hood is open I dont get the open door signal. Maybe they changed that though.

could the crazy weather be the cause by any chance.... b/c it happened after it got pretty cold and my car sat outside for a good whole day before the alarm going off forcing me to move it in the garage keeping it unlocked b/c the alarm kept going off on me.....

Maybe something forze to one of the sensors in your door or hatch.
Snoop around and maybe clean up your door jam areas

oh i think i might know what may have happend.
on the door pins there is supposed to be a rubber stopper. If these fall off it just leaves the plastic plunger which without the rubber cover will not depress far enough. So even though you shut to door it will still see it as open.

I had the same issue a while back when a detailer knocked mine off.

eh ya./... i tried playing around with that and the random alarm going off thing went away but i've noticed that the open door light doesn't pop op no more when my driver side door is open... sometimes it does ... so it seems like its the sensor on the driver door is messed up.. but i also noticed that my trunk does not lock anymore after i open it..... and then everything else will lock but the trunk will stay open weird...... anywho...... any more suggestions.. maybe i can fix it w/o takin it to the shop and going broke more than i already am.....

I had some major electrical problems with my MKIII about 2 years ago, not sure if they same thing happens in MKIV but you may want to check the wirers running in between the body of the car and the doors. On my car a bunch of them had deteriorated and were casing my problems.
