  • Brake pad light came on today...

I have already called George and have my car booked in to Tunedub next Friday, but I'm wondering at what point does this light normally come on?? (ie. 3/4 wear, 20% left, etc)

I'm just worried that I won't have the ability to make it to next friday without having my brakes go completely dead on me. Anybody know of how much relative life span I might have left?

    Cheers!

I beleive they come on with 2mm remaining on the pads. The light will also come on if the wire going to the sensor gets broken or damaged.

Hmm... last time I had my car in with George he mentioned something about my my brake cables being damaged or something but he didn't have the correct part to replace them with.

Jack the car up and take the left wheel off...see how much u got left on the pads, if there is a fair amount left, take a look at the cable that goes from the rear brake pad to a silver holding thing that is connected to the suspension.

Sorry thats the best way i could explain it. I really wish we had a little drawing table here so i could draw it out to u haha

What kind of life is everyone getting out of their brakes?

I'm at 105,000 km and I've easily got 5+mm of pad left on the front.

Those stupid sensors f up all the time, I used to get the light on a regular basis for a couple of weeks, so I turned it off with my Vag. Definately check your pad life though, don't trust the light.

I'm at 102 and I'm pretty sure their factory pads, previous owner from new showed no brake service in past service history from dealer. This is on a 2.0l though, Once turbo shows up that'l be a diferent story.

the second statement is true, but sensor is only on front driver's side so that side is definately worn.

You should be ok, unless you're driving style is to prove to the world that you've got the ultimate driving machine.

with my 2.0L?! The only time that I'm seen going fast is when those dam truck drivers are suddenly becoming larger and larger in my rearview
