  • Transmission slipping?

I have an automatic transmission. For the past 2 or 3 weeks, it seems like its been slipping.
When I start out i need to rev it up to about 1300 rpm or so before it seems to move. It used to move forward as sson as I took my foot of the break like a normal auto should. It also rolls back on hills like a standard does, until it revs up. It also seems to be rough switching gears from 3rd to 4th. Its starting to be a little rough from 2nd to 3rd as well.
I was wondering if anyone knows what could be the problem, and what I could do to fix this.
    Thanks

GERMANS can't build a proper auto tranny,it's all tin and crap.
should flush the fluid every 48k.
Good Luck..Drop the pan and look at the carnage.

fluid is either thick as mud and/or low...or your TC is toast.

No, its just a regular auto. Its an 01'. I don't beleive they had a tiptronic option.
Thanks guys, any opinions on shops to take it to? I tend to steer away from dealerships. I dont feel like bending over

Alright. Has anyone dealt with Das Auto Haus in Red Deer? Its a little closer for me to get to.
Edit: Also, what type of fluid does the tranmission use? Thanks

Das Auto Haus is well regarded among the people on here that use it.

                      Re: Transmission slipping?

Thanks, I figured out the fluid question as well...
Instead of creating a new thread im just going to post it here, as it could be related.

Underneath the bumper, on the right hand side of the car (when your sitting in it) there is a pan looking thing. Its to the left of the skid plate when your looking underneath the car from the front. There are droplets of oil sitting on my driveway. They seem to be coming from this pan thing. Its pretty much right next to the front passenger side wheel well.
My question is, what is the pan thing? And could this be linked to my transmission problem or is this something different?

Turned out to be the forward clutch...
I need to eplace that which is pretty uch the same cost of a rebuilt transmission.
The tranny shop said it would be a month and alot of money....

Im trying to explore all options, so does anyone have an idea as to how uch it would be to put a 5 speed trasmission into it?

Probably the same labour you would be charged for the clutch replacement, plus the cost of a transmission from a wrecker.

Not sure why it should take a month though? Maybe call around.

The person you should ask is Dom, he's done at least 2 transmission replacements on Mk4 Jettas in the past in Calgary, pretty sure...
