I just have sylvania silverstars. there are a couple simmilar bulbs in other brands. They are better than OEM, but still within spec. Avoid super bright bulbs that blind everyone (like HID bulbs in stock housing).... i hate it when guys do that. Don't get bulbs that are blue for the sake of blueness either.

            K.
I know you don't want them but just to clear up the misperception that may exist:

You don't have HID's or HID bulbs, you have halogen lighting with halogen bulbs. Halogen lights up a filament much like your standard light bulb at home to produce light. HID's use a gas that gets heated to produce light.

You can't stick HID bulbs onto a halogen system, it simply doesn't work. HID systems have ballasts and everything else needed to run them.

You also can't legally put HID's into a halogen housing on your car. Meaning if your car didn't come with HID's from the factory, putting HID's into the headlights is illegal. The housings are different to avoid glare and blinding of other drivers as the beam patterns are different.

Many people choose to ignore this, some more than others. If you run an ecode setup you can generally get away with not blinding people, but it is still not a legal setup. Many cops however don't even know the difference and so they wont call you on it.

If you are looking for good bulbs try the sylvania's they are really good. Relaying your headlights is also very good as it will make them brighter and you can run higher wattage bulbs.

To get the most out of halogen's you should switch to a european headlight housing with relays as you can then run 100w and 130w bulbs relayed properly and get far more useable light than any HID system.

Re: Quick head light bulb question.

I believe canadian tire actually sells them.

I may run HID's but it will be in an ecode housing so it has the cutoff and they will be aimed properly. Either that or run 110/130 lights and blind the hell out of idiots who dont have theirs aimed right.

absolute worst in a lowered car is trucks with improperly aimed lights or HID retro kits. I can't see **** in my rearview

Re: Quick head light bulb question.

I've tried a couple different bulbs in the past month.

Had a pair of Hella Super White or something cost about 50 bucks for the pair, low beam was great but the high beam was really dissapointing.

Last week i switched them out for a pair of Phillips NightGuide bulbs. They have 3 different color patterns in them. Yellow for less glare on other drivers, brighter white/purply/blue for the ditches and a good white light straight ahead. Low beam on these was just as good as the Hella, and the high beam was amazing.

I bought NA spec silverstars and while I really liked how white they were, they didn't last very long for me. Still have em in the high beams since I rarely use highs.

                              Rondal,

The halogen light assemblys you are talking about....do you know of a company name for them(or place to buy online). I dont want HID but am in need of a new halogen set up that is better for lighting. I own a 02 jetta. In searches I find angle eyes and such but know nothing about lights. i do need hi and lo beams as most of my driving is highway at night. I use Sylvania bulbs now and they are good but the plastic lens are so ratty that they cant be touched up anymore.

PS. I have done the sanding of the plastic for the last 3 years. Its time for new. Waste of my time after the second time.
