  • 20th Sideskirts

I have the opportunity to get some used OEM 20th side skirts for half price of new. My only problem is that tabs are broken because they were taken off a car in an accident. Are these garbage or can they be attached without problems? 3M tape and some screws here and there? I'd have to repaint them reflex, not sure what that costs but probably cheaper than buying new + paint. Worth it?

    Anyways, take a look:

    Thanks.

find someone that does plastic welding. or as mitesh said get them glued on. Realistically do you plan on wanting to take them off?

It's not to say they wont ever come off, it is just when they come off they aren't coming off nicely. They will be torn to shreds and liking cut off.

        One thing to consider.....

A bodyshop is going to want a lot more labour if they have to prep the used pieces. If you buy them new then there is very little that has to be done they can basically just spray them. Old pieces they will have to sand and fix the blemishes, prime, sand THEN paint. What I'm trying to say is what you save buy buying them used you may end up spending at the bodyshop. Something to consider anyway.

I remember when I wanted a jetta hood for my mk3 it was cheaper to go buy a new one at C1 and get it painted then it was to get a free one that was the wrong colour and get it painted.

This is what he says about the tabs.

"No, they are not dented. OK, those tabs where made for the gli and 20th cars that have a special add on part ( not sold separetly anywhere) to lower the floor panel. unless you create a sepcial part to put it there (between tabs and floor panel) you wont need the tabs."

I never thought of the prep work costing so much for a used item. It is something to think about though. If i had to glue them to the care would I want to? No not really. Hmm... Maybe I should just keep wait for someone to sell reflex silver sideskirts.

You can glue them with fusor products just not sure how well. I do minor bodywork and paint and are in the process of custom molding an oettinger body kit myself on my mk4 jetta, and I'm using fusor right now, will post the results, how much does the person want for the skirts?
