My car threw a CEL what could it be?

Hello,

I was driving up Macloud this morning and notice my check engine light came on. Im not sure what it could be, any ideas? Car still ran as normal, but i really don't want to have to drive it when it's having issues.

History of the car 03 golf 2.0L, only Mod to engine is a short air intake and that was done a while ago. My transaxles have abit of seepage,which i do intend to get fixed soon. And don't think my tranny would be low and could that make the engine throw a code?

I'm a little in the dark, any light on the subject will be appreciated.

Just hook it up to VAG and find out, if you don't want to go to dealership there's plenty of guys here with the program who'd do it for a beer or two I'm sure.

i say gas cap loose or MAF sensor.
depending on mileage you could still be under warranty for some components.

Almost exact thing happened to me less than a week ago. Turned out to be the coolant temp sensor. I was told it was a fairly common issue. I also have an 04' 2.0 golf. But I would definitly suggest (if you haven't already yet) get it hooked up to a VAG. 5 seconds and knew what the problem was, doesn't get any better then that!

If its a 2.0L, could be the catalytic, mines been buggered for a while, did you recieve a letter from volkswagen extending the warranty?

Light still on cars runs fine hate driving it right now but kinda have to...only set of wheels.

So my buddy works at auto value and scanned my car for me tonight. Found out it was my catalytic converter. I do have the letter from volkswagen for warranty only issue is i have lowering suspension so they might be picky about that. My intake isn't a big deal i can switch that back to stock easily. But it would be a pain to put the old suspension back in.

Anyone have experience with warranty and having say an after market suspension?

They shouldn't question suspension for exhaust work unless they can't get it on the lift.

I have cold air intake and cat back exhaust and Northland didn't hassle me about replacing the catalytic converter. I cleared the emissions code with my Vagcom, took about 3 months for it to come back on twice, then about 1 month, then I took it in.

the catalytic convertor is a Federal Warranty set up by our Goverment to make VW more accountable for its lousy Convertors.
they cannot deny the claim even with mods.

took the car in today to SCFC just to book an appointment. They had time for it today checked it out and didn't have cat's in stock but will be done next monday..warranty very nice
