  • Engine Dress Up

As time progresses and I add more things to the car, im starting to show it.
I have a cold air intake so far, which looks good. I want to add more things to the engine to give it a nicer look.
Does anyone have any ideas or any shops I could go to to get some things?
    Thanks

Could replace the ugly round coolant reservoir with an aluminum one - I saw in PVW magazine that someone makes a direct fit tank.

Start at 60 or 80 grit work up to 1500 or 2000, then use aluminum polish.

          and this is wet sanding.

So basically you need 60,80,100,200,400,600,800,1000,1500,2000 grit wet sandpaper, aluminum polish with polishing cloths, and a shiznat load of elbow grease and lots of time.

              Re: Engine Dress Up

Wet sanding wouldn't be needed on the rougher grits (60,80,100) as these are to get your surface ready. You proabably can get it done in a weekend. What intake manifold are you doing, if its a 1.8T you will need to replace the gasket. make sure you use even pressure when getting into the finer grits as you will create waves in the metal.

Thanks for the tips! Would a palm sander be useful?

                  Re: Engine Dress Up

only for the start as you need to be going in a smooth back and forth motion when you get to the finer grits, palm sanders are osilating (spelling)

Thanks Ryan and the rest of you. Lots of helpful ideas.
Im not to sure on the intake manifold though, I know next to nothing about engine's.
                    What about colors hoses?

the intake manifold buy a mouse sander from homedepot, etc then buy the grits for it.. takes tons of time off doing it.. problem is your engine bay gets covered in shavings/metal so cover surrounding areas with cloths then keep a shop vac near and vacuum around every few minutes thats what i did when i did mine long time ago
