  • Help please, fender rolling.

    Hey all,
I'm buying a set of 18" eta beta wheels 18x8 front, 18x9 rear for my MKIII VR6 GTI. I'm just curious as to how far these'll come out of my wells, the stock wheels sit in there pretty deep. Also if I lower the car what kind of room am i dealing with? Will I have to roll the fenders a bit? And if so, does this require paint work?

Thats pretty big for a MK3, but anything is possible, will depend on drop and offset of course. Fender rolling will probably be needed, the backs can be done pretty easily but fronts are harder and often crack the paint on the fenders which could be a problem.

I had Porsche Cup2 rims on my MK3 VR6 that were 17x8.5 and 17x9 and had to roll my fenders in the back and still had problems, although my car is lowered. You MAY get away with it if you have not lowered your car but if you do drop your car you are going to run into problems, you may be looking at a fender pull rather then a roll.

IMO these wheels are too big and not worth it.

Ps, Whats The Diff Between Fender Pull And Roll?

                  Re: Help please, fender rolling.

Rolling just rolls the little lip (about 1/2 an inch) under the fender where as pulling requires cutting the fender, pulling out and filling in with metal.

                    Re: Help please, fender rolling.

As Derek said, Fender rolling is essentially pressing the inside of the fender lip up to help it from making contact with your tire/wheel.

Fender pulling in contrast is more like making your car a wide body by pushing the fenders outward and adjusting there angles and such, much more extreme.

Update: Well, This Apparently Will Not Work, I Got The Rears To Fit But There Was Only Approx 3mm To Rear Bumper And Fuel Tank, And The Front Spring Cup Sat Right On The Rubber, Tire Profile Is A 45, But I Think Even With A 35 Lower Pro There Would Still Be Only A C-hair Of Room. So, No Go.
