    Re: Radar detectors...

I have the Escort X50 in my closet (blue LEDS's) that I would sell if you are interested? Paid itself off one night and thanks to it, I still have my drivers licence. After that experience I put the thing away.

Here is a link for a comparison

      www.007radardetectors.com

The new 2008 is a little different then the 2007. The Val 1 is slightly over better then STi. So go for what features you want.

      Hope it helps.

granted function is what is important, but i wish the design of the V1 was a little more attractive.

Does anyone have issues with the V1 having false alerts? The Escort x50 looks good but the features of the V1 such as arrows is quite appealing. I'm looking to pick one of these up very soon.

My friend just bought one. They are made in England, and built into a rear view mirror. This mirror replaced your stock mirror and a woman's voice tells you what's going on. The mirror has a built in compass too. Pretty nifty for $200.

What it sounds like it just a faint beep then nothing, faint beep then nothing. With the arrows you realize what is going on as you approach the cop, and you avoid the ticket.
It's also handy around numerous hotspots where you have K, Ka, and X band all going off at the same time. You can figure out where you need to concentrate your attention on the road, be it behind you or in front, and go from there.
I drove with an 8500 last summer in one of the trucks and while it's nice to have something, it still feels like you are half naked driving with one
LOL. It's simple really, when the baby screams, slow the EFF down.

I've personally used the Escort X50 as well on one of my trips to BC, worked really well once we got out of the mountains, didn't have it on in the mountains.

Just wondering why they took your detector away in B.C. since they are legal over there? Last year in Fernie I was pulled over for no reason so I hid the detector because I was unaware if they were legal or not, the cop came up and laughed at me, told me not worry about hiding it next time because they were legal there.

                        Re: Radar detectors...

I talked about this in the last radar detector post made some time ago. I have no idea why they took it. It was getting old so I figure they can have it now and maybe use it themelves. . I went and reported it to my grandfather (who is a judge) and he laughed at me. I figured he would make a call or two for me. He didnt but did tell me "You got caught speeding! Face the penalty and slow down". So I let it be.

Thanks, i dont really want to go to a laser jammer because they are really illegal, the cops hate them...

BC took your radar detector? i don't buy it without further explanation.
I have been pulled over a few times, once for doing 197km/h....and the detector was still on the windshield (he got me with laser) and they didn't say a thing about it.
I have never heard of anyone in BC losing a detector to the cops because they had one in their car.

edit. I didn't see your above explanation before i posted the above

                                Re: Radar detectors...

driving without due car and attention $368 ticket and an officer who was ready to pull me out of the car through the open window.

I left Vancouver late heading back here on a Monday, wanted to make it back before nightfall in the summer. Roads were empty and dry so I decided to open it up on a section to make up some time. Cop hit me with laser, detector went off but at that speed I didn't have time to slow down. I didn't even see the guy, so thought it was a false alarm and kept motoring along after a brief slow down. Turns out he was getting in his car to catch up to me.
In his words, it took him over 15mins at 200+km/h to catch up to me and pull me over, which by that time I had met up with a group of cars and had slowed down to a more reasononable 130.
Aside from being a little red in the face as he was obviously going as fast as he could to catch up to me he was fine. Let me go with just the ticket and a warning that he had radioed to kamloops asking them to set up a trap for me because he didn't think he was going to be able to catch up to me in time.

Oh well lesson learned. I refuse to speed on the coquihala now...its just a cop trap and they have tons of little hiding places
