    Re: Radar detectors...

yeah but do your transceivers turn off after jamming, allowing you to slow down but allowing the cop to hit you again again 5 seconds once you are at a reasonable speed?
The lidatek system just reads and error on the gun then shuts itself off so the cop can hit you again get a lower speed, and be none the wiser. Usually a tell tale sign of a jammer is the fact you cant hit **** with it

^ thats kinda cool. but does it matter? can you get a fine for having the jammer if they can't get a speed reading? I thought the jammers were as legal as the radar detectors.

        Laser jammers are legal.
        Radar jammers are illegal.
On the radar detector note, the Escort 8500 was rated just as highly as the V-1 by multiple sources, but for different reasons.

ability to detect is at least as good as V1, but some guys really like their arrows that tell where the signal is coming from.

Is this AB only? becuase as far as I remember laser jamming in BC was ILLEGAL. I know radar detecting is fine in BC, AB, and Sask but illegal in manitoba.

That is certainly a feature I wish my 8500 had, I hate not knowing where it is coming from but ultimately I just slowdown (if necessary) anyways until I see them or the signal fades away.

i tried to find that info. bc, ab and sk were ok, but i don't know if anything has changed recently. i can't find an actual government source though. I found more official docs saying radar detecting is ok in BC and Alberta. Its ok in SK too, but I never actually checked that one.

**arrows could be handy at times.. esp. in the prairies. When your picking up signals over 1km away, it would be nice to know. In teh mountains where I typically drive, if you didn't just pass him, he's in front of you.

Not that anyone will ever drive there but since we're collecting data, Detectors are illegal in NT also.

                    Re: Radar detectors...

arrows are worth their weight in gold, driving with a detector without them is like driving with a screaming baby. You know they are making noise but have no idea what is causing it.

The arrows allow you to do nifty little things like pick up the unmarked cop ahead of you 1km down the road driving the same direction as you. What it sounds like it just a faint beep then nothing, faint beep then nothing. With the arrows you realize what is going on as you approach the cop, and you avoid the ticket.
It's also handy around numerous hotspots where you have K, Ka, and X band all going off at the same time. You can figure out where you need to concentrate your attention on the road, be it behind you or in front, and go from there.
I drove with an 8500 last summer in one of the trucks and while it's nice to have something, it still feels like you are half naked driving with one

                      Re: Radar detectors...

We have had this discussion before.

Valintine 1 was the old standard. It is updateable. In order to compete, Bel/Escort have come out with new stuff(remember they are one company now). After many long hours/days of research and talking with RCMP(that come into work) I decided to buy The Bel STI(which they borrow when they leave on vacation). Price at the time was $600(visions). It is the ONLY one that is completely undetectable by radar detector detectors. I (and friends) have used this item in a couple provinces(BC took my last radar detector from me) and into states that have them banded(also lend it out to live stock truckers). I have yet to get a ticket. I think the Escort 8500 thats rated very high as well(#2). Older then the STI but still ranked high. Valintine is now ranked #3. Now I know a couple on here are going to argue this. Many sites out there claim the same thing. It WAS the best. Not no more. The STI is upgradable for future technology improvements. Also note that you cant really go wrong with any of the top 3. If money is an issue then take the Escort. If you want the latest and greatest, one that isnt detectable at all then its the Bel. On one site I visited it stated the Valintine is hindered by its age. Until Valintine comes out with a new model they wont recommend it against the newer Escort or Bel. But its been #1 for over a decade(or more). Thats a fact that no one can argue.

Now I am unsure if it (or any radar) is going to help you with Lydar. It is able to grab many vehicles at once, with a single use. Something that I am going to look into.

With my STI I find that SHERRIF cars dont always come up. Not sure what they are using (they could even have the radar off when I pass them). I also know that I have to send the machine back to Bel for the software upgrade.

there's a new gps coming out with built in radar, its supposed to draw on the map where cops are. a little better than v1 arrows if you ask me

the instant on radar guns are flipped off and on pretty fast. i've followed them and my detector just beeps for a few seconds every time a car passes in the opposite direction. they just flip it on if they suspect you are speeding.

Tricky bastards. Has anyone else noticed they travel in packs of 3? At least thats what I have noticed in and around Lethbridge area. Great way to catch people. If I see one sheriff I always know there are another 2 behind him (or on the same road).
Does anyone know if they are using the Lydar yet in Canada?

I thought I could make it back to this site before anyone replied. ....No luck.

I am thinking of a lidar gun that is able to catch multiple people at once. It was "new" in the news special I seen in Las Vegas. This gun caught 4-6 cars at once.

The reason I ask is everyone knows if they dont scan a car ahead of you for your detector to register it then you are busted. Scanning a whole road at once and the ability to register 6 cars at once makes it hard to register unless you are already caught.
