So after much battling with the city of Calgary, it seems they have their asses more than covered when it comes to liability. Which I find completely ridiculous. As some of you may recall, or perhaps have had happen themselves, my oil pan was destroyed by an unmarked, unattended raised manhole.
The problem itself was that due to improper road maintenance, the pavement sunk creating ruts at the particular intersection. This rut in itself is not a dangerous beast, it's the manhole that lies directly beside it that is now at a dangerous level if your car happens to drive through the rut.a problem which is STILL there almost 4.5 months later.
Basically it boiled down to this. The city had no prior knowledge of there being a problem at the specified location, and therefore were free of liability, because they never had a chance to fix it. So basically so long as no one mentions it to them, they don't have to fix ANY road problems and they can't be held accountable. Great work Municipality act! Sure am glad I pay for those roads to be "maintained"!
Not really attempting to solve the unsolvable here, just venting a bit. Has anyone else had any major problems with the city arise?

go on beyond and see what they say over there. ive read a few ppl have complained to the city and gotten money for it, so maybe they can give you some tips on accomplishing the same thing.

    good luck

Yeah i busted 2 rims and poped 2 tires on an unmarked manhole in a construction site. They plained the road down so the metal man hole covers stuck up quite alot. There was no signs and they dident even spray paint them orange. I took some pictures and called the city and they bought me 2 new rims and tires. So good luck it is possible!

such BS. They are responsible for our roads whether they know there is a problem or not. Should have claimed they were negligent and therefore liable.
