  • oil and gas???

    hey ya'll once again

kkkkk... i know this has probably been up here before... buttt i just had a few qs in mind

i was wondering what kind of oil you guys use for your 1.8Ts, b/c i have gotten different advices from alota ppl... so let me hear yours....

the question was.. what kind of oil is best for a 03 1.8T.. when i bought my car i noticed that 10w30 had been in it ... so when i got an oil change done.. i got them to put in 10w30 synthetic... then i was reading in a tuning/repair manual at home and it stated that these cars roll out of the lot with 5w45 in them.....and then it says that 10w45 or 15w45 is also an option... now my question 2nd question is...... which is best?? the 5w45, 10w45, or the 15w45... and which is most suitable for just street driving (shift kicking it here and there) ...

another question i have is since i have 10w30 in mines and not 10w45... is that bad??? should i drain it n put in ##w45 oil in???? or am i fine as is and i can put the better one in next time???

also what brand do you guys recomend and y??

while im at it... ill throw another question in...... what about gas... which one is good.. i try to pump 94 whenever i get a chance 2 from husky.... if not then 92 from husky/mohawk. i used to pump V-power (shell premium) but i heard bad things about that gas for VWs... true???? soo to my research .. ive gotten down to this,.... pump 94 for choice #1.. if not do 92 at husky (i heard husky is the best) or petro has good gas too (which i used to pump initially, then shell, now husky)

anyways.... throw me some feedback... how was your exp with the mileage, etc.....

    thx again guys cheers!!!

(sorry for making this sound like an essay question)

owners manual says use the 5W 40 syn. and it also says use 91 octane or grater in the VR6 and 1.8T engines. I know for sure my VR6 knocks if you use anything lower than 91. soooooo if you stay true to the oil you might as well for the gas too

yes and 91 octane.. the chart reco posted is good

the 5w is good for cooler climates as its thinner for startup flow

the 40 rating means the hotter your engine gets the oil will thicken and work better.. best in turbo applications

a vr6 im thinking probably uses just 5w30 but synthetic

5/40 synth as mentioned, especially in 1.8T. Don't beat the piss out of the car and turn it off right away either. I use Penzoil platinum 5/40 synth, only because it's a few bucks cheaper than the syntec. I still feel that 0/40 is too thin.

Better than no oil at all, but generally no.

But if you're stuck at a gas station you can put 5/30 in with 5/40, but change it next time you can. If you have full synth in there, try and get semi-synth at least. Most stations have at least that.
